Q - When does the new Block B Award Program take effect?
A - The new point schedule will be used for the 2009-2010 school year.

Q - How many points do I need to earn a Block B? and a Star?
A - Each student will need to earn 400 points in total to earn a Block B and for each additional 100 points they will earn a star.

Q - What happens to the current 7th and 8th graders this first year?
A - If you are in 8th grade and you have not earned a Block B previously and you earn 125 points in 2009-2010 you will receive a Block B. If you have previously earned a Block B and you earn 100 points in 2009-2010 you will receive one star. (Consideration will be given to 8th graders on the cusp which have received points in prior years.)

If you are in the 7th grade and you have not earned a Block B previously, you will need to earn 250 points before graduation to receive a Block B. You will receive a star for each additional 100 points.  If you have earned a Block B previously, then you will receive one star for each 100 points.

Q - What if I forget to turn in my record card?
A - It is each student’s responsibility to complete the record card, get the necessary signatures and turn it in by the deadline.  This year’s deadline is May 14, 2010. Unfortunately cards for 8th graders turned in after the deadline cannot be considered.

Q - What if I can’t get a signature?
A - If you earned Block B points for a PTA event, like Headstart Day or the Table Top Luncheon, we have your name.  If you earned Block B points for Academic Excellence, Goal Getters or Outstanding Bobcat, we have your name.  All other items need a signature.

Q - How will Block B recipients be recognized under the new program?
A - 7th grade and 8th grade Block B recipients will be recognized at each grade level’s day time awards ceremony.  It is anticipated that most active and involved students should be able to earn a Block B by 8th grade graduation.  It is possible that a handful of very involved students may earn awards during 7th grade.

All 8th graders who have received Block B’s and stars will be listed in the graduation program.  Additionally graduates who have earned a Block B will receive a t-shirt.

Q - Who will be keeping track of Block B points?
A - Each student is responsible for turning in their record card. The Student Recognition Committee from the PTA will take on the task of verifying the record cards, tallying each students total points and creating the list of award recipients each year in time for the annual awards ceremonies.
