Guidelines for Communication Vehicles 2010-2011

Overall, all school communication vehicles are for the exclusive use of the school and/or PTA and are NOT advertising vehicles for individuals or businesses.  Any submissions that are in question for any reason will be forwarded to the PTA President(s) and/or Principal for review and approval before publication.

Monday Bulletin, Bobcat News and Website
Submission Deadline:  Tuesday 8PM
Submit to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

The subject line of the email should say “Monday Bulletin” or “Bobcat News” followed by the date to be published and a short description of the subject.

Example:  Bobcat News 9/3/09 Reminder for xyz event

Urgent email blasts (that cannot wait until the Thursday distribution--which we discourage) must have the subject line “URGENT Blast.”

Submissions must be edited and ready for print. Those making submissions should copy the appropriate board member.  Do NOT copy the PTA President(s).

Monday Bulletin - Used for school and PTA announcements.  As the bulletin is limited to one 2-sided page, keep announcements brief.  Attachments may be provided.  Hard copy and attachments are distributed to students on Monday morning.  Some families have agreed to only receive a soft copy.  An email copy, with attachment links, is sent to all email addresses on file with the school.

Bobcat News - Sent via email to all who have agreed to receive PTA notices (more than half of families).  Sent on Thursday (except for very time sensitive issues, all messages will be compiled into one blast per week).  Generated by the PTA, not school, but used by both.  The blast is ideal for longer articles and time sensitive materials.  It can also provide live links to websites for direct access to more information.

The website is always available and updated on a regular basis.  The Monday Bulletins, Bobcat News (email blasts), lunch calendar and school and PTA calendar updates are automatically posted on the web every week.  (Children’s names are edited out before posting.) Those making submissions should copy the appropriate board member.  Do NOT copy the PTA Presidents.

The website is ideal for reference materials, longer articles and forms.  Summations of longer articles could be posted in the Monday Bulletin with directions to access the article in its entirety on the web.  The new Bobcat mascot .jpeg is now available on the web to be downloaded to use in documents.

Bobcat Alumni News
Many alumni and alumni parents are interested in attending social events such as the Table Top Design Luncheon and the Cultural Fair.  Borel has the ability to send email blasts to 9th graders who attended Borel last year.  These are sent as on Thursdays as needed.  Submit requests to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it by 8PM on Tuesday night.   The subject of the email should read “Alumni News ”.

Feeder Schools
Borel has Feeder School Liaisons (Baywood, Highlands, Park and Sunnybrae) who will forward messages on to the appropriate communications vehicles at those schools.  Deadlines vary.  We encourage the attendance of future students and their families at all appropriate events.  Contacts are:

Connect Ed- Automated Telephone System
Reaches every family in Borel with a recorded telephone message.  John Cosmos and his staff approve and post messages.
Use sparingly.  Intended for important school-wide notices such as Back-to-School night, Parent-Teacher conferences, and unusual minimum days.  PTA will use it occasionally for very important issues such as Membership drive, cultural fair and a key speaker at a PTA meeting.

Spanish Translation
There are no requirements for translations of PTA communications.  We strive to translate all those communications that directly affect the Spanish speaking community especially those related to academics.  We use PTA volunteers to do the translation.
