Letter from the PTA President

PTA Welcomes You!

This year, as in the past, Borel PTA strives to support our children’s academic progress and build community among our families. We hope you will join us in striving toward this goal. This year we have a number of exciting and new initiatives. Below we have highlighted the new initiatives and some key information for the beginning of the school year.

• More, fun community building activities.
o September: Progressive Dinner Party in the Park neighborhood.
o Late November: “Tis the Season in the Baywood neighborhood.
o Winter: Family spaghetti dinner at the Highlands Rec Center
o Spring: Designer Table Top Luncheon in the Borel library

• The SMFC District is now requiring fingerprinting of all parents who work with students in the absence of a staff member. This includes all drivers to field trips and sporting events. For your convenience, we have arranged to have an agency at Back-to-School night to do the fingerprinting. If you miss this opportunity, you will have to arrange to visit one of the participating agencies’ offices. The cost for the fingerprinting/background check falls to the parents. See the Borel website for more details and updates.

• Our membership drive has been retitled “Borel Fair Share” and for the first time you can make your donation (securely) online and in installments. Your support of the Borel Fair Share program has never been more critical. With the community’s support, we can defy the budget crisis and continue improving Borel.

• We have a new website (www.smfc.k12.ca.us/borel/) which will be a valuable resource. It includes a wealth of information including schedules and forms and links to the online payment options.

• Don’t miss the first PTA Meeting, September 10 at 7PM in the library. It will feature John Cosmos, Principal, discussing test scores, common dress/IB, standards based report cards, the California budget’s impact at Borel, and he will introduce the new teachers.

• The only way to receive the Thursday Bobcat news is via email. Sign up to receive Bobcat News and the Monday Bulletin via email by going to the website or filling out the form in your first day packets. These publications will also be posted to the website.

• Escrip is an easy, no cost to you, way to contribute to Borel. If you are already registered, you still need to reregister your Safeway Club card by November. While there, make sure your contributions are directed to Borel. To register, go to escrip.com or visit the Borel website.

• Volunteering at Borel comes in all sizes. Commitments range from answering phones in the office, to chaperoning school functions, to baking cookies, to supporting school fundraisers to participating in the Cultural Fair. Go to the website to sign up or look for the form in your first day packets. Email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it with any questions.

We look forward to an exciting and productive year. Together we can continue to make Borel Middle School the best environment for our children to learn and grow.
