Important Announcements

To the Borel Community

We are all one, and it is time to step up once again. The recent earthquake in Haiti has created a great need for food, water, medicine, shelter, etc. The Life Skills classes will be taking your Red Cross donations, at lunch, in front of room 24.  Our global community is calling for help.  Let's do what we do best...come together. (The Sixth Grade Life Skills Classes & Mrs. Fenech)

Parcel Tax Information

As you may be aware, during the past 3 years, drastic budget reductions in Sacramento have forced the San Mateo-Foster City Schools to cut more than $18 million from school budgets. On February 23, 2010, in a mail-only ballot election, voters will be able to approve stable local funding that cannot be taken away by the state.  The measure would extend the current parcel tax, which was approved by over 70% of local voters seven years ago, and increase the rate by $96 ($8 per month) while providing a senior exemption and independent oversight.  The funds will be used to offset damaging state budget cuts and preserve the quality of education in our local schools by:  attracting and retaining qualified teachers, maintaining school libraries, providing middle school art and music programs, supporting small class sizes.

SamTrans Rate Change

Effective February 1, 2010 youth fares for SamTrans will cost $1.25 and youth tokens (bag of 10) will cost $10.00.  For more information, please contact SamTrans Customer Service at 1-800-660-4287.

National Geobee

Congratulations to Louis Lam for winning the 2010 National Geographic Bee.  Cleo Wienbar is our runner-up.  Louis will now compete on the state level.  Thank you to ALL our participants for “hanging in there” during some very difficult questions. Other participants:  Gabriella Bermudez, Keenan Flynn, John Graham, Austin Kang, Jordan Kranzler, Michael Lanthier, Matt Lanthier, David Straub, and Katie Wysong.
